Not sure what you need? Just describe it.

Tell it the rooms, the tile you have in mind, and whether the old tiles are still down. It works out the surface and prices it from the same rate card as the calculator below.

What will the tiling cost?

Whole-property tiling by floor area and specification, or the surface you actually have, by tile type. Every figure comes from one rate card — the same one turnkeymalta.com prices a fit-out with — and its source sits beside it.

Basic is ceramic and standard porcelain. Luxury is large-format porcelain with a levelling system. Super Luxury is natural stone and marble; Ultimate is book-matched slab. The top two come out as a range because the material decides the number.

Describe the job.
We'll work it out.

A photo of the bathroom, a plan of the flat, or just a sentence. It asks what it needs, then prices the answer from the same rates as the calculator — not from a guess.

Tell me about the job — a bathroom, a floor, a whole shell, a terrace — and what tile you have in mind. If you know the square metres, even better.

Attach a photo of the room or a plan and it will say what the work involves and read the dimensions off a drawing. Files are passed straight to the assistant and never stored. Answers come from this site's own rate card. Where we do not publish a rate — regrouting, terraces, pools — it will say so rather than guess.

How Tiler.mt works

Tiling is the finish everyone sees and the trade most often done on a loose floor, over a damp wall, with a lip on every second tile. We replace that with a contractor: a site visit that measures the surface and checks the substrate, an itemised quote per square metre, a verified tiler, and someone accountable if a tile ever lifts. You deal with us; we deal with the trade.

A founding skill-card trade.
Still no licence.

Tile layers were one of the four trades Malta's Construction Industry Skill Card was launched for in 2016, and the Building and Construction Authority now runs it — but in 2026 the regulations that would make the card compulsory were still being drafted, and the contractor licensing that came into force in July 2025 covers demolition, excavation and construction, not finishing trades. There is no licence a tiler must hold.

So verification does the work a licence would. CheckYourTraders checks identity, insurance and track record, publishes reviews from real customers, and gives the tiler a right of reply. Every tiler we use has passed that, and we are the contractor who answers for the job.

Need more than tiling?

Tiler.mt lays them; tile.mt is where you choose them — every tile showroom in Malta and Sicily and the brands each one stocks. Both are CheckYourTraders trade sites, with the same verified network and the same rate card.

We are actively looking for
the best tilers in Malta.

Tiler.mt delivers jobs as the contractor, and every tiler on one comes from the CheckYourTraders-verified network. We want the ones who tank before they tile, use a levelling system on large format without being asked, and put their floors in front of a customer without flinching — in Malta and Gozo.

Tell us what you do and where you work. When a job comes up that fits, we will put you in front of it.

We read every one. Verification through CheckYourTraders comes first; nobody goes on a job of ours without it.

Frequently asked questions

How much does tiling cost in Malta?
The calculator carries turnkeymalta.com's tiling model, per square metre of tiled surface, labour and a mid-range tile together: ceramic and standard porcelain €35 to €58, large-format porcelain €55 to €85, natural stone €75 to €125, book-matched slab €127 to €230, patterned tiles €55 to €92. Strip-out of old tiles adds €10 to €18 and tanking a wet area €15 to €25 per square metre. For a whole property it prices per square metre of floor area instead, from €66 at Basic, because a home tiles more surface than it has floor.
Why do you price per square metre of surface and per square metre of floor?
Because they are different things. A tiler quotes the surface they lay. A fit-out budget carries tiling per square metre of the property, and a property tiles about 1.4 to 1.7 times its floor area once bathroom walls, splashbacks and terraces are counted. Both numbers are on the card, and they are reconciled by that ratio, so the whole-property line and the per-surface bands cannot disagree.
Do tilers need a licence in Malta?
No. Tile layers were a founding trade of the Construction Industry Skill Card in 2016, but its regulations were still being drafted in 2026, and contractor licensing covers demolition, excavation and construction only. That is why every tiler on a job of ours is verified by CheckYourTraders, and why we stand behind the work as the contractor.
Should the bathroom be tanked before tiling?
Yes. Tiles and grout are not waterproof; the membrane under them is. Every shower and wet area we tile gets a liquid membrane with corner and pipe tapes before the first tile goes on. It is a priced line on the card, not an extra found later.
Can new tiles go over old ones?
Sometimes — if the old floor is sound, flat and well bonded, and the extra height works at doors and thresholds. Often the honest answer is strip-out, which is why it has its own band. The site visit taps the floor and tells you.
Why do tiles crack or lift in Maltese apartments?
Usually the substrate, not the tile: a screed laid too thin or too green, a slab that moves with the building, adhesive spread in dabs rather than a full bed, or no movement joint across a long run. Large-format tiles are least forgiving. We level, use a full bed and the right adhesive class, and leave movement joints where the floor needs them.
Do I need a permit to tile a terrace or roof?
Retiling an existing terrace within your own property is normally maintenance, but external finishes visible from the street, and anything on a scheduled building or in an urban conservation area, can need the Planning Authority. In a condominium the roof and terrace slabs are usually common parts. The waterproofing under the tiles matters more than the tiles; we do both.
Do you cover Gozo?
Yes. Tilers local to Gozo from the same verified network, so nobody is paying for a ferry to lay a splashback.
Is the calculator a quote?
No. It is an honest figure from a published rate card so you know what you are walking into. A free site visit measures the real surface and turns it into a fixed, itemised quote.
How do I get started?
Book a free site visit. We measure the surfaces and check the substrate, we send an itemised quote per square metre, and if you go ahead the work is scheduled with one point of contact from the first visit to the last bead of silicone.
